Sažetak
In the classical physical structure of town (blocks of houses), it is almost impossible to recognize the theme of a gable house front on an individual building. The destruction of the classical physical structure of the town and the establishment of &#8220 ; ; rod-like urban design&#8221 ; ; provokes spatial and design relations of the dominant, front façade towards the side, gable façade. These relations are in close connection with solving the problem of the building corner. Sometimes, this problem is solved by either close contact, or it is established through different heights, curviness, overlap, placement a round staircase. During the period of Modern Architecture the gable house front was designed as a pragmatical part of an &#8220 ; ; unfinished&#8221 ; ; (raw) industrial product, on both sides of rod-building. The desire to form a design for the gable house front was accomplished through shallow relief in raw concrete, as a sculptural articulation in neoCorbusier &#8220 ; ; gymnastic&#8221 ; ; (Aymonino), expressionistic curvature (Mendelshon), and quite more open in the building-town like line (Le Corbusier, Alvar Aalto, Erskine). Thus, a very important problem of relation between the building and the town has been established. In fact, it is a transformation source of natural space into a new architectural reality. It confirms the architect´s desire to imitate a godlike gesture in creating an image of Heaven on Earth. Whatsoever, the form of a gable house front does not primarily result from formal premises, but necessitates some usual references, such as: urban situation, orientation, typological selection of the house according to the required number of apartments (gallery type or double oriented apartments). These references determine: corridor illumination (material opacity and porosity), apartment orientation, terrain topology that implicates a cascade stepping of the building (either on a flat or sloped terrain, by a full wall surface with &#8211 ; ; portholes &#8211 ; ; Jošić), and finally the possibility of transformation of the gable house front into the main, dominating house front. In this case, the gable house front is not determined by windows of secondary utility apartment spaces (pantry, kitchen, small balcony etc) rather by a sitting room with a large terrace (A. Libera). Architects also offer interment of gable house fronts either as an ecological solution or to reduce covered areas (lower contamination of nature due to construction). Thus, curved roofs are transformed into gable house fronts (Radonić, Rako).
