Sažetak
The war in Croatia (at the end of 20th century) actuated the increased interest for ruined houses - not primarily for a romantic research of the special beauty of ruins, but for a possible re-use of damaged houses after the war. As the major part of destroyed or damaged housing were modest family houses, and government funds were insufficient, it was obvious that the renovation of damaged houses was the only hope for numerous refugees for their return to their homes. Due to the specific geographical form of Croatia (its specific crescent, "croissant" form on the map of Europe), the war demolitions took place everywhere, in the same time in peripheral and central parts of the country. Faced to such a large-scale destruction, the architects could not adhere to the Futurists and De Stijl manifests. In the world, the interest for ruins in architecture (or architecture in ruins) was primarily connected with the phenomenon of post-modern architecture, and only later with the preservation of our environment. It is necessary to give back to the nature what the modern man has dispossessed it of. In Croatia, the return to ruins could be explained by the intellectual pessimism rather than by searching for a "built destruction". Scientists researching the geometry of chaos accuse the Modern movement for having destroyed the natural balance in its environment. If the chaos is a fact and not a disorder, and if the order is the supreme aim for of human spirit, then we should perhaps consider changing our aims.
