Sažetak
Post-harvest grain drying represents a significant cost in maize production. Grain moisture (GM) is a quantitative trait dependent on duration of vegetation period. Slow phenotyping makes selection for this trait difficult. The objective of this study was to evaluate the applicability of generic wood moisture meter (GNR) for in-field assessment of maize GM. We measured 5 ears with GNR which were then measured using our internal referent method (REF). Both GNR and REF showed moderate to high heritabilities. Strong phenotypic and genetic correlations were observed between GNR and REF. We concluded that GNR method is a good choice for estimation of the occurrence of physiological maturity.
