Sažetak
Recent decades were associated with dynamic changes in science, technology, politics and economy causing our dependence on modern technologies and global economic situation. While innovative companies developed as spin-offs or innovative start-ups became golden standards for modern societies, traditional crafting SMEs vanished while major industries moved from their European and American origins into rapidly developing Asian regions. In countries like Croatia these dramatic changes were also affected by even more dramatic political changes. Many people were forced to retire, many lost their jobs, majority is hardly leaving on credits and working for minimal salaries, while innovation became a luxury as did science itself. Fortunately, new trends can be observed supported by sound project management and enthusiasm of innovators and entrepreneurs. Due to financial obstacles, the search for R&D granting instead of bank credits gradually arises, based on good practice of several EU, as well as national granting systems mostly relying on the STP project supported by the World Bank. These trends resemble similar processes occurring in other countries of fundamentally different characteristics worldwide. In Europe, this process resulted in the set-up of the strategically important networking programs/projects and associations such as EARTO. Thus, the perspective is clearly indicated, based on revival of traditional crafting combined with innovative approaches that will be presented in the article.
