Sažetak
Toni Morrison's two main novels contain characteristic features which contrast and at the same time bring together two fictional patterns. These include chronological irregularity against a mixture of temporal layers, history against contemporaneity, vitality against decadence, spiritual emptiness against emancipated self-awareness. Both penetrate into secrets of origin, guilt and victimization. In both myths function as contemporary stories underpinned by formalised communal interventions very close to rituals.
