Sažetak
In May 2016 a breakthrough piece of EU legislation in the area of personal data protection was adopted – the General Data Protection Regulation, which significantly affects personal data processing operations (also) by the online media industry and which is to apply directly in all EU Member States already as of late May 2018. Additionally, in January this year the European Commission proposed a Regulation on Privacy and Electronic Communications, which introduces changes to the current legal framework (ePrivacy Directive) inter alia as regards the use of “cookies” and similar technologies, and the processing of “metadata”. The presentation will discuss positive and negative implications of the rules on the online media industry, with a particular focus on its data-based revenue operations.
