Sažetak
This paper presents the data collected through research conducted by the author and dealing with the use of new media as a useful instrument in teaching English as a foreign language (EFL). The thesis proposes the definition of different kinds of media, including their positive and negative aspects, and the impact they may have on children. Media competences and media education, whose presence in the primary school curriculum should be enhanced, are also discussed. The thesis further presents the research: the applied research methods and research structure, description of participants, and descriptive data analysis. For the purpose of examining the usage of new media in EFL classrooms, research was conducted on a sample of 95 participants (22 pre-service and in-service EFL teachers and 73 primary school pupils). Based on the analysis of research data regarding media usage in English language classrooms, it could be concluded that new media are not used to their full potential.
