Sažetak
Two hundered bodies were exhumed from the mass grave Ovcara: 198 males and 2 females. Physicians for Human Rights and the Hague Tribunal Interantional Committee members were present during the exhumations. The bodies were transported to the Department of Forensic Medicine and Criminology in Zagreb were dental identification was performed. Traditional post-mortem identification methods including teeth analysis were applied. By 1st January 2000, 132 (66%) bodies had been identified, while 68 (34%) bodies remained unidentified (until the data reporting). Dental identification by ante mortem data achived in 37% of the identified cases. The most frequent source of information for dental identification were dental charts 30%, followed by interviews with relatives 28%, photographs 27%. X-rays 10% and the witnessing of dentists 4%. The experience of the disaster identification team in Croatia and the results achived in the identification of bodies exhumed from mass graves have proven the importance and the need of the analysis of teeth for identification purposes.
