Sažetak
The majority of loneliness measures fall within one of two general conceptual approaches. Most have evolved from unidimensional construct of loneliness. Within this view there is fundamental commonality in the experience of loneliness regardless of cause. The revised UCLA Loneliness Scale is perhaps the most frequently used loneliness scale that falls within this category. However, recent treatments of loneliness have focused on the need for theoretically derived measurement instruments which address the multidimensional nature of loneliness. The multidimensional perspective views loneliness as a multifaceted phenomenon which cannot be captured by a single global measure. Di Tomasso & Spinner (1993) developed a scale aimed to assess the social and emotional loneliness (SELSA) which was derived from Weiss&#8217 ; typology of loneliness. The SELSA has three subscales which examines Family, Romantic and Social Loneliness. The aim of the research was to compare global (UCLA) and multidimensional (SELSA) measure of loneliness. Participants were 483 high school students in Zadar. The results show that all three subscales were significantly correlated to revised UCLA Loneliness Scale but the highest correlation was between subscale Social loneliness and UCLA. These results are in line with findings of Di Tomasso and Spinner (1993, 1997). Some sex and age differences were found on multidimensional scale but not on UCLA. On the basis of these findings the authors suggest that is important to continue investigate these relations to find out more about loneliness as multidimensional construct.
