Sažetak
In the mammal, the liver is unique in its ability to regenerate and restore its original function. Hepatocytes, which represent the nucleus of regeneration, enter the cell cycle as they transform from quiescent state (Go) to a pre-replicative state (G1). This is followed by DNA synthesis (S) and mitosis (M) with cell division completing the sequence. This process is mediated by hepatotrophic factors that conjointly stimulate up-regulation of protooncogene expression with concurrent and subsequent formation of proteins which are responsible for growth control. Protooncogene products are integral to the cellular signalling system and generally are very highly conserved troughout evolution. Protooncogene expression after 2/3 hepatectomy in rats can be divided into three phases: i) early (0 to 4 h) ; ii)intermediate (8 to 14) ; and iii) late (24 to 72 h post-operation). In this work we followed the dynamics of the appearance of two "early" oncoproteins, c-erbB2 and c-myc, in liver tissue after 1/3 hepatectomy (Hx) performed on male , 2-3 months old BALB/C mice. All the results were established by immunohistochemically staining slices of liver tissue. The proteins were identified using specific monoclonal antibodies. The results showed that the accumulation of c-erbB2 occured in the early phase of compensatory liver growth while c-myc appeared in three phases - c-myc was present immediately after the operation, in the late phase (24-48 hours), and again at the end of compensatory liver growth.
