Shaun Tan’s The Arrival is a piece about migration. The paper analyses the way in which language is visually presented. Tan employs the narrative potential of intraiconic text and modifies the conventions of the visual discourse. The notion of belonging is a basic existential issue. Thematic complexity is visually presented through the metaphor of language.
