Sažetak
One of the key aspects of public transport in cities are bus vehicles and the supporting infrastructure. Development and improvement of information and communication technologies combined with implementation of new innovative services and solutions can attract residents to use public transport which has major impact in reduction of air pollution and city traffic congestion by limiting the number of vehicles in city centers as well as business and market districts. Some of the main problems of public transport are irregular bus arrivals, relatively long waiting times at bus stops and overcrowding during transit. These problems occur due to dynamically changing traffic conditions, which increases passenger dissatisfaction. Implementation of Internet of Things (IoT) in public transport system can allow better planning, management and distribution of Smart Buses according to the current traffic. Fitting the bus stops with green energy solutions and suitable IoT devices combined with new communication standards and cloud access services enables economical gathering and identification of relevant data and information. This can further encourage the use of public transport by providing the passengers with up to date information about bus routes, time of arrival, and current bus position. Due to relatively high initial installation and maintenance cost, low cost solutions are being continually researched and developed. Main goal is providing same quality of service and level of cyber-security as current commercially available products. In this paper, an overview of IoT technology application in Smart Bus Stops is presented, with emphasis on low cost solutions.
