Sažetak
Nowadays, Europe is facing a major challenge brought by the international migration, through its economic and humanitarian dimensions. Hence, this paper is set out to build up distinctive immigration clusters for the most important ten host economies within the European Union (EU), based on two scenarios corresponding to migrants’ decision and expectations at destination related to economic growth and labour market outcomes. Further, we aim to outline feasible mechanisms and appropriate policies for immigrants’ labour market integration. We’ve applied cluster analysis and spatial macro–econometric models on a balanced panel complied for EU-10 migrant receiving countries during 2000–2015. Cluster results revealed the dominant position of Germany as the main migrant destination country in terms of economic welfare, while the Nordic States were preferred when it comes to employment opportunities. Spatial analysis highlights that active policies conveyed for migrant integration emerge as key elements of EU migration strategies, significantly reducing the unemployment rate of the foreign population, under the compelling influence of spatial spillover effects, while passive policies act as a restraint for labour market participation.
