Sažetak
Research studies on electromagnetic interference betweeen digital wireless telecommunication devices and implanted medical device (pacemakers or defibrilators)as reported in the public domain are reviewed, and some of the areas which require further research are highlihted. Posssible mechanisms of electromagnetic coupling between mobile telephone antenna and pacemaker/defibrillators leads, unscreened connectors and electronics via housing are analyzed. It is hown that main cause of interferece is probably demodulation of low frequency components of the radio frequency signal in the implant amplifier. If the mobile telephone uses digital modulation, demodulated components lie in the frequency spectrum of the natural heart signals and may be misinterpreted as the heart signal within th implanted device. The interference problem has an electromagnetic part which includes coupling between telecommunication device an a implanted device. Another aspect is the circuit theory part involving the demodulation process and influence of the demodulated signal on the operation of the implanted device. Numericall modelling of the electromagnetic coupling using FDTD method is discussed. The human body with an implanted device is modelled as a scatterer in the near field of a wireless device. Simple model of the coupling between a wireless device, implant lead and connector are introduced. Experimantal verification of the numerical analyisis using a physiological phantom with an implanted device is proposed.
