Sažetak
Forests in the karst area of Republic of Croatia are mostlz degraded components of the small wood reserves, but have significant useful function in accordance to the tourist attractions of the Croatian coast. The main danger of the forests in this area is a forest fire. One of the most necessary fire-prevention measures in fights againts forest fires is a building of spatialy well-laid network of fire-prevention roads. Fire-prevention roads represent the special category of roads whichhas to be distinguished from the economi roads in the area of economic forests of the continental area of Croatia. They are built with the maximum longitudinal slopes of the level to 6 %, the width of the roads is 4.00 m, minimum radii of the horizontal curves are 20 m, the slopes of the bevel of the bank are 1:1 and of the cutting 4:1. The transversal slope of the roadway is 2 % to the outer side, the upper layer is made of the crushed stone material 15 cm thick. Using mentioned tehnical elements satisfying quality of these roads is achieved regarding the traffic intensity, traffic load and their primary function. According to the plan of the Public firm Croatian forests (Hrvatske šume) by 2005 it is necessary to achieve openess of all the economic units on the karst of 10 m/ha, building 150 km of fire-prevention roads per year.
