Sažetak
This paper shows how the adoption of the cognitive linguistic framework, in particular, cognitive semantics (Lakoff and Johnson 1980, Lakoff 1993) and Langacker's usage-based model (Langacker 1987, 2000) can improve on some traditional pragmatic accounts of metaphor interpretation. In particular, we challenge the idea of metaphor as an explicature-generating mechanism since the derivation of target interpretations by explicature cannot occur without recourse to 'supplementary contextual information'. We propose a more central role of implicated premises (i.e. 'supplementary' contextual meaning) in deriving explicated meaning behind linguistic metaphors.
