Sažetak
Diagnostic imaging techniques using radiation include X-rays, computed tomography (CT) scans, and radionuclide (nuclear medicine) studies. Children are more sensitive to radiation exposure than adults and have a longer time ahead of them to manifest radiation-induced effects and injuries. Therefore, it is of great importance to reduce or minimise the radiation dose to children when choosing imaging techniques using radiation for diagnostic purposes. The “Image Gently“ campaign is an initiative of the Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric Imaging. The goal of the campaign is to change clinical practice by increasing awareness of the opportunities to promote radiation protection in the imaging of children. This article reviews the radiation protection in paediatric diagnostic imaging with regards to the adjustment of imaging protocols in routine clinical practice.
