Sažetak
With better healthcare, longevity and lower birth rates the world is seeing a major change in demographic trends. The impact of this transition means that there will be a change in the labour supply. Many industries will have to adjust either by bringing more of the youth population into their workforce or by attracting more workers from the older population. One of interesting areas under a challenge is manual order-picking, a process in which humans are routed to items’ storage locations to retrieve items for customers. Its activities are costly due to large resource and time consumption. Care for workers’ health is often neglected at the expense of productivity due to ambiguity around argument that costs can by reduced by lowering of ergonomic risks. Analyzing experimentally obtained data on time consumption and ergonomic loads for younger and older order-pickers we define possible scenarios and measures for adaption on changed demographic trends.
