Sažetak
Changes and trends in software engineering are not only affecting the industry but also the academic community which is confronted with the need for continuous curricular adaptation to enable closer correspondence between students’ knowledge and skills with the requirements of the ICT labor market. Agile methods like Scrum often imply the use of collaborative software platforms such as GitHub that are used in the IT industry. Therefore, tools GitHub are also employed within programming courses, most often in relation to team project assignments. The results of previous research and case studies that describe the use of GitHub in the context of software engineering courses in higher education indicate that this collaborative platform and code management tool positively affects the completion of projects as well as improves the quality of software and communication between team members. However, there is lack of research on the use of the GitHub platform in the context of theoretical models of technology acceptance and use, and this study aims to fill this gap. The main goal of this paper is to provide insight in the implementation and acceptance of GitHub in a software engineering course using the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT). For this purpose, a pilot study has been conducted on a sample of undergraduate students enrolled in a software engineering course. The measurement instrument consisted of scales which measure different aspects of the UTAUT model, as well as those related to collaborative learning. Results of this pilot study provide a basis for further investigation of this topic specifically in relation to the advantages, disadvantages and challenges of using and accepting the collaborative GitHub platform in the academic context, as well as the development of a reliable measuring instrument for that purpose based on the UTAUT model.
