Sažetak
Participation of citizens in the social and political life of the community has become the main paradigm of modern states, as the principle is contained in all major international documents. The reasons that have led to the need for citizen involvement are complex, but one of the main reasons is complaint for the lack of legitimacy of decision-makers. Despite all normative and practical efforts, the level of participation and youth activism remains at very low levels, not only in Croatia but also across Europe. Starting from this assumption, a research was conducted on a representative sample of the students of the College of Applied Sciences „Lavoslav Ružička“ in Vukovar. The common characteristics of the respondents are belonging to the category of young people who are in the higher education system and the characteristic is the territorial affiliation of the area of Eastern Slavonia. In this paper, the level of citizenship education is measured by the degree of youth involvement in the political life of the community, their attitudes about the influence of politics, sources of information on politics and motives for their (non-) inclusion. The research was conducted through a questionnaire conducted in March 2018. In the analysis of the resulting data will be used standard statistical methods. Although the sample of respondents is not representative for the whole territory of the Republic of Croatia, some common indicators can be identified out of the results. The research results confirm the initial assumption that young people are uninterested and poorly involved.
