Sažetak
Modern teaching of foreign languages has become unthinkable without the use of new information technologies. Teaching languages is the leading profession, or at least it should be, in the application of modern teaching strategies, with the goal of bringing the teacher’s content closer to the student. In this work, we will be presenting and evaluating individual teaching methods used in teaching languages for specific purposes, as well as proposing concrete examples of teaching strategies and individual forms of learning in order to develop language skills of students with a specific focus on developing the autonomy of students when learning a foreign language. Information technology has become the center of the modern world and therefore using it in teaching is a necessity. E-learning is becoming an increasingly likely form of education in the future and a technological imperative, primarily due to the provision of lifelong learning for which we can safely say that, without technology, would not be feasible. The role of the student in the educational process has greatly changed. Instead of passive listeners and viewers, we try to make students active participants in the educational process, and in that way enable them to be the organizers of their own lesson in order to develop independent learning skills as well as develop critical thinking skills. Also, the paper will address the issue of the subject in the classroom, in order to define the application, type and teaching strategies. With a comparison of traditional and modern ways of teaching, we will try to defend the thesis that traditional teaching is focused exclusively on the cognitive area while neglecting the affective and psychomotor areas and thus affects the quality of the information provided. Choosing a modern, didactic strategy, the teacher/instructor takes on the role of the organizer, leader, collaborator, and supporter and in the end, the role of an evaluator in the classroom. By doing so, the individual increases the quality of teaching and the pupils’ interest in the subject begins to grow. If we succeed in turning students from passive observers into active participants in the teaching process, we have achieved most of the goals of teaching and have reached the ultimate goal: a quality education system which educates and teaches active participants of the entire society. As a result, the relationship between students and teachers would be based on constructivism and the students would build their knowledge within their own means.
