Sažetak
Ultrasound velocity is an important acoustic parameter inherent to each type of material and is often applied for material characterization. Numerous research works proved that changes in the microstructure directly reflect the differences ultrasound pulse propagation. This paper confirms previous researches in the field of material characterisation by using the ultrasound wave propagation. It gives detailed results of ultrasound velocity measurements for two different grain sizes of the same material – Al 99.5. Statistical analysis shows significant difference in ultrasound velocity for grain sizes of 39 µm and 95 µm. Larger grain size shows greater ultrasound velocity, and smaller grain size shows lower ultrasound velocity. The difference has been explained through the number of grain boundaries of the ultrasound pulse path, which presents an obstacle to the wave propagation.
