Sažetak
Among adults older than 65 years, falls are a verified cause of morbidity and mortality. Additionally, falls can precipitate physical injuries which lead to lack of confidence, physical inactivity and social isolation. The goal of this paper is to analyze amount and scope of influence of physical activity and balance training on prevention or reduction of fall risk factors and rate of falls among elderly. In order to detect the effectiveness of physical activity and balance training on prevention or decreasing of fall risk factors and rate of falls in adults over 65, a computerized systematic literature search of research articles published from January 2000 to January 2018 was performed in the PubMed electronic database. Additionally, all full text articles were manually screened. The computerized search strategy with key words „adult“, „accidental falls“, „education“, „exercise“, „elderly“, „fall risk assessment“, „resistance training“, „postural stability“, „balance training“, „physical activity“, „prevention of falls“ with different combination of OR and AND operators, revealed 45 potential articles. Additional manual screening reduced number of articles on 20. Although wide studies researched this topic, there was a lack of formal and exact evidence that physical activity and balance exercises are protective factors against falls among elderly. That is probably due to the fact that there is no long time longitudinal randomized controlled trials that are dealing with this issue. On the other side, researches are clearly pointing to the health benefits of exercises what can be only assumed to have impact on falls prevention.
