Sažetak
The chapter presents the results of a pilot study dealing with verbs used in mechanical engineering texts. In academic scientific writing nouns and complex noun phrases are the main carriers of information and verbs seem to occupy a minor role, predominantly connecting the subject of the sentence to additional information about that subject. This analysis of verbs has been carried out on excerpts from a mechanical engineering textbook and a paper published in an engineering scientific journal. The results of the study include two typologies of verbs used in the mechanical engineering texts and a discussion on practical implications for teaching technical English and academic writing to students of mechanical engineering.
