Sažetak
This paper investigates the biography of Wladimir Putin in German newspaper magazine Der Spiegel (DS) published in November 2017 in the framework of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). We are concerned with the role of the DS magazine as one of the leading printed media in Germany regarding opinion making and Agenda- Setting associated with it, and aim to give a clear insight into the question of motives and goals of Putin's biography in this magazine. The analysis comprises 31 magazine articles (including interviews and speeches), in which the use of certain linguistic choices and their effects on the conceptualization of this political leader is investigated within two aspects:1)linguistic resources used in discourse fragments (texts) and 2)different effects of linguistic resources used in different contexts. The use of various linguistic means is investigated on two levels, the lexical and the grammatical level: the use of certain nouns, adjectives, verbs and pronouns from the aspect of the systemic- functional linguistics (SFL). The analysis shows that Putin's biography can be regarded as a model of a discursive profile building of one of the most powerful (and controversial) politicians of our time. By using certain nouns and keywords (der Zar, ein Realist, mythische Figur), adjectives (charmant, realistisch, entschlossen), etc. a discursive model is created according to which Putin can gain a great affection from his supporters, sending a message to his opponents that he is not a dictator and an absolutist.
