Sažetak
The aim of this study was to estimate the correlation of severity of emotional and cognitive symptoms in the case of Parkinson's disease (PD) with the latencies and amplitudes of the P300 components of the event-related potentials (ERP). 30 subjects with PD were tested. The level of depression was estimated using Montgomery Aasberg Depression Scale (MADRS). In addition, the subscales of the Unified Parkinson Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS), Hoen-Yahr Scale and Schwab and England Scale were applied. The latencies of the P300 component of ERP were measured at Fz and Pz, using the standard auditory &laquo ; odball&raquo ; paradigm. All patients tested demonstrated an increase of P300 latencies (mean 387 ms at Fz and 391ms at Pz). The amplitudes of P300 were slightly lower at Fz, although the difference was not statistically significant. The P300 latencies correlated highly with all the other tests used, particularly with MADRS. These results show that both depression and cognitive decline in patients with PD seem to be associated with prolonged latencies of the late ERP components. Frontal decrease of amplitude of the P300 probably depicts just brain atrophy in PD.
