Sažetak
In endurance sports a high maximal oxygen uptake is a prerequisite for athletic success. To increase the oxygen transport capacity of the blood for performance enhancement, illegal methods such as blood doping and administration of erythropoiesis stimulating drugs are used in sport [4] [6]. For proving doping, until recently the focus was on demonstrating the prohibited substances in the urine. However, the window for detecting exogenous administered erythropoietin (epo) in the urine is rather short. i. e. the substance can be detected in the urine for 4–5 days after the last administration [13] [14] and for even a shorter period when low doses are administered [1]. In addition, newer substances may not be detectable at all at the time of urine analysis [22]. However, any stimulation or inhibition of erythropoiesis may show changes in the dynamics of erythropoiesis, and consequently in reticulocyte count
