Sažetak
Foreign direct investment is crucial for the faster developement of countries that are still developing their economy trying to reach the developed countries. This flow of new capital strenghtens the structural basis of an economy because of the long term investments. Implying that the investor also brings knowlege in managing the company and investment it means a great improvement in abilities of local workforce. Also there are great advantages in obtaining new technologies, production processes and opening new markets. Since the FDI is divided in greenfield (investing in new capacities) and brownfield (investing in existing capacities) investments, much greater is the importance oft he first one, bringing greater 'blood flow' to the economy. Many countries give investors a lot of benefit trying to lure them in an investment that will greatly benefit their economies starting from new enployment. Smaller costs of production, political stability, market growth, good infrastructure, educated workforce are conditions that elements that increase FDI. The FDI in Croatia are still low creating great problems in boosting the economy. In the paper will be compared figures with other countries trying to find the reasons why there is difference between them. We will look for the determinants that are slowing the flow of FDI in Croatia. With the recesion, stagnation of GDP and a big unemployment figure FDI would greatly help in restoring economic growth. According to the findings and obtained results of the paper will be proposed measures that can help the growth of FDI in Croatia.
