Sažetak
LNG storage tanks are special structures used for storage of liquefied natural gas. Constructed as double containers, LNG storage tanks must sustain required properties during the entire life cycle ; i.e. must have the ability to store LNG at very low temperatures and must guarantee that no vapours are released. Experience has showed that concrete can be successfully used for construction of LNG storage tanks. However, special care should be taken since the characteristics of the construction materials used must guarantee that no damage should occur due to cooling cycles during tank filling or that the concrete shell should be damaged due the thermal shock caused by gas leaking. Following, the design and proper maintenance of LNG storage tanks requires excellent knowledge of the thermo-mechanical and permeability properties of concrete at extremely low temperatures, the so-called cryogenic temperatures. This paper presents a literature review of the behaviour of concrete at very low temperatures in terms of mechanical, permeability and thermal properties. Literature review also covers the expressions for predicting the mechanical properties of concrete at above explained conditions.
