Sažetak
In modern terms company is exposed to numerous risks and a degree of uncertainty. The volatility of market prices, interest rates, exchange rates and the risk of payment, in a large extent determine the survival of the global environment. The basic aim of every company’s business is to achieve positive financial result that is an assumption of security and business continuity. The crisis, which occurred in the world and also in Republic of Croatia, has caused major problems for the collection of outstanding receivables and liabilities. Liquid assets is an "live" category, as opposed to profit, due to the presence of temporal mismatch between income and cash receipts. Money is the most liquid form of assets and if the company does not generate enough money, it can’t develop and grow. Therefore, they are extremely important information about the availability of money, its sources and ways of spending. Effective liquidity management involves planning and controlling the current assets and current liabilities in such way that eliminates the risk of inability to meet short-term liabilities on the one hand, and avoids over- investment on the other side. In this paper, focus is on the Croatian food industry as an important segment of the manufacturing industry. According to the Finance Agency in the Republic of Croatia in 2011 year in the food industry 45.4 thousand workers were employed. Number of entrepreneurs in the food industry was 1399, of which only 13% of businesses selling their products in foreign markets. The aim of this paper is to show the correlation between the liquidity of food companies and the economic crisis. They will study the indicators of liquidity (current, acceleration, current liquidity and financial stability) in the period since 2006 to 2011 year. The study will engage large Croatian entrepreneurs in the food industry which participate in the capital market.
