Sažetak
Children's cots and cradles have been produced from wood since ancient times. In today's children's cots and cradles manufacture, very complex and expensive technology for wood production is used. Because of that, wooden boards mostly particleboard and fibrous ones (MDF), having lower prices, are used in children's cots manufacture. Metal beds are less produced than the wooden ones, mostly as hospital children's cots. Recently, playpens have appeared, used for little older children. Playpens are intended for a child's play and short time sleeping, but they are started to be used for whole night sleeping too. They are also manufactured from wood, most frequently from metal, recently also from plastics. In this paper is given historical review of wooden children's cots manufacture, definitions of some constructional types of children's cots, wooden and non-wooden materials used for their production, systematic approach in children's cots design process, recent news from children equipment fair Kind + Jugend. There are more and more associations in Europe promoting wood usage, some of their activities will be mentioned. Children's cots made from wood should be rational and innovative regarding price, design, and quality, to be competitive on the market
