Sažetak
In 2017 we have obtained airborne LiDAR data of the territory of Vrsar (Istria, Croatia) from commissioned flights, which revealed the existence of previously unknown archaeological features. During 2018 we undertook the archaeological evaluation of Lidar data by targeted field survey and trial trenching as part of a new project ArchaeoCulTour – The Archaeological Landscape in a Sustainable Development of Cultural Tourism in the Municipality of Vrsar. The survey area comprised hills, the sunken karst river valley of the Lim Bay with its steep northern slopes and a part of the flat wooded area in the eastern part of the area under scrutiny. Two Bronze Age hilltop settlements and elements of the Roman centuriation grid in the eastern area were explored, several rock shelters and caves have been identified on the slopes of the Lim Bay. The targeted survey proved to be a useful tool for identifying archaeological and historical landscape features hidden under thick Mediterranean shrubbery, when classical field survey is impossible.
