Sažetak
The successful prevention of illicit trafficking of cultural property presumes the existence of legal market for cultural property objects with whose assistance it is possible to supervise the movement of cultural property, both in local and international markets. Every country regulates the legal framework for market relations, through laws and other acts. Cultural property is not an exception. We must start from the fact that the Republic of Croatia is considered to be a “export country” in terms of cultural goods and objects of art, and a majority of the current member states of the EU are considered “import states”. With this we recognise a problem encountered by the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, as well as by Croatian society as a whole. Every adaptation to new conditions must be undertaken with appropriate activities and in a specific time period. In our case, it is not enough to adapt the Croatian regulations to those of the European Union. Instead, it is necessary to establish an organised market for objects of art and cultural goods with the new regulations. In addition, there must be an increase in the level of security for all objects of art and cultural goods to effectively oppose illicit traffic and export from the Republic of Croatia.
