Sažetak
Transition in Croatia was very much shaped by the war for independence in early 1990's. The war delayed transition reforms in early 1990's that were undergone in other advanced transition countries and erased Croatian advantage in initial conditions before the beginning of transition. Even after the war ended, Croatia was excluded from the EU integration process, which adversely affected its economy. However, according to many economic indicators, Croatia was one of more successful transition countries in second half of 1990's. The first part of the paper describes economic growth in Croatia during the transition, and identifies some of its determinants and prospects. The second part of the paper describes the problem of weak merchandise exports, performance, which is on of the main obstacle for the sustainable economic growth.
