Sažetak
Almost three years after mass-arrival of refugees and forced migrants to Europe the basic postulates of common EU(ropean) asylum, migration and border management regimes are shaken, yet persistent and more restrictive. Recent challenges in dealing with this population and enabling them prospects for safe and better living have become complex and salient issue on the level of policy, research and everyday life. Even though we are witnessing to, first and foremost, the gradual deterioration of international standards of “broken refugee regimes” and “the crisis of solidarity” the “old continent” relies on demographic, economic and sociocultural contributions of people with immigrant backgrounds, as well as of newly arrived refugees and migrants. The process of their immediate reception, accommodation, and long- lasting integration resembles trajectories of construing (EU)ropean identity in the process of “othering”, however, aimed at including newcomers within most of the EU societies. A role of education (including early childhood and religious education), among all other integration dimensions, act as an indispensable factor in mutual socialization, intercultural communication and interreligious interaction of traditional immigrant and ethno-religious minority groups, newcomers and domicile population. In this speech we provide a brief overview of the contemporary EU migration, asylum and integration policies, influenced by the mass-arrival during “the long summer of migration”, depicting some of important current challenges in the area of international protection and integration, also briefly referring to a Croatian context in regards to roles of religious organizations in integration process.
