Sažetak
The oldest reliably dated amber find in Croatia originates from the Alilovci Lipje site. The amber was found in a residential structure that was dated to the Middle Bronze Age. Such dating has also been confirmed by radiocarbon analyses. The Brotlaibidol was also discovered in the neighbouring residential structure. Recently, more and more authors take the view that different prehistoric communities used these objects for trading or exchanging goods at a great distance, which also encompassed cultural and social interaction. Certain authors connect the Brotlaibidol with amber trade in the Baltic area. Amber finds originate from two more sites in Croatia. However, the grave units in which the amber was unearthed are not reliable, which also puts its dating into question. Two amber pearls were uncovered in a barrow at Žamnjak, and several were discovered in a barrow at Krmedski Novi Grad. Both sites are located near the city of Rovinj in Istria.
