Sažetak
This paper deals with the waters of Neretva River and its water system - affluents, ponds and springs - ure of water, quality of water and its protection. Based on personal research and available literature we can conclude that the water system of Neretva River is extremely important for the inhabitants and economy of this part of southern Croatia. There are certain problems concerning the pollution, especially extensive use of pesticides used for protecting the crops, wastewaters from the settlements and industry in this area. But, complying with certain regulations the problem can and must be solved, especially because the waters of Neretva River supply a large part of the local inhabitants and the economy with fresh water. These waters also supply Middle Dalmatian islands and Pelješac penninsula.
