Sažetak
Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the problem of tear film dysfunction as well as its role and influence on visual acuity. Methods: The study included 62 subjects: 31 with tear film dysfunction symptoms (group A) and a control group which consisted of 31healthy volunteers (group B). Subject symptoms were assessed according to the standard Schein questionnaire supplemented with additional questions and the post-blink blur time (PBBT) by using standard Snellen charts was measured in order to determine a possible connection between PBBT and the tear film dysfunction. Additional clinical assessments included tear film break-up time (TBUT). Results: A statistically significant differences was found in the average PBBT values as well as TBUT between investigated groups. The average PBBT were 9.0 seconds in a group with symptoms of dry eye (group A), and 14.7 seconds in the control group (group B). Group A had an average TBUT value of 4.8 seconds, and in the control group B TBUT was 7.6 seconds. Further, a strong positive correlation was found between PBBT and TBUT values (r=0.62 for the right eye ; r=0.52 for the left eye). Conclusion: Our research confirms the important role of healthy ocular surface for the light refraction and visual acuity.
