Sažetak
We investigated the effect of adding nitrous oxide at the end of isoflurane anesthesia on the recovery and PONV. Although isoflurane is less frequently used in most high-income countries it remains primary volatile anesthetic in most countries today especially for cardiac surgery allowing considerable cost savings. ISONATE technique is a simple and cheap intervention with desirable effects such as rapid recovery, potentially improved postoperative analgesia without increasing risk of PONV even when no PONV prophylaxis was given. Many factors determine recovery from inhaled anesthesia with solubility and anesthetic kinetics as a main determinant for the time to recovery.Numerous practical considerations (availability, costs, and preference) may be influential factors into the decision regarding which inhaled anesthetic to choose. If ISONATE technique withstand the test of time, its clinical impact can be substantial, especially in low-resource setting
