Sažetak
Multiple myeloma (MM) is the second most common malignant disease of the hematopoietic system that is characterized by a malignant proliferation of plasma cells and release of monoclonal protein. Patients younger than 60-70 years and with good general condition after a high dose therapy are cured by autologous stem cell transplantation. The aim of this work was to identify if in the leukapheresis sample for autologous transplantation are present malignant hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) that can be responsible for the relapse of the disease after the treatment. By multiparameter flow cytometric analysis we showed slightly greater percentage of Bcl2, Jagged1 and Hes1 positive HSCs in MM patient compared with healthy donors. These results suggest that HSCs, from which MM plasma cells will developed, are already malignant and that there is promotion of their survival and resistance to the chemotherapeutic agents. This can be one of the reasons for the relapse of the disease after the treatment.
