Sažetak
The aim of this presentation is to look into the reasons why contemporary phonological theory is rather unpopular, not only among students, but also among linguists. The author's intention is to show how it is possible to promote a positive approach to phonological theory by showing the possibilities of using theoretical phonological insights in accounting for practical, often amusing phenomena. These include cases of misperception of song lyrics ; pronunciation phenomena related to language acquisition ; awkward accentual patterns in the pronunciation of pitch-accent languages heard on the radio and TV ; amusing language games ; or patterns of expletive infixation found in various languages.
