Sažetak
Nowadays, synergy between tourism and sport has major impact on the development of human activity domains such as economy, technology, politics etc. Traditional types of vacations are increasingly replaced by contemporary tourism trends which indicate the motives and contents of active holidays. According to the previous, sport and sports recreation have significant assignment to fulfill primary needs of human for movement and active living, affecting the content and quality of an active vacation in a touristic destination. In the continental part of Croatia, Region of Slavonia carries the title of golden grain and agriculturally the most developed part of Republic of Croatia. Because of its geographical and landscape diversities like plains, territories rich with rivers, wetlands, hills, vineyards etc., cultural and historical heritage with specific gastronomical offers, Slavonia Region has touristic potential. It also has potential to develop specific form of tourism focused on development of rural and sports recreational tourism like cycle tourism. The basic aim of this paper is to analyze existing condition and to explore possibilities and potential of development of sports recreational tourism in Slavonia Region focused on one of the fastest growing selective forms of tourism in Croatia in the last years. That recreational-orientation cycling, named cycle tourism in accordance with contemporary tourist trends should develop into tourism innovation and integrate into the tourist offer of the Slavonia Region.
