Sažetak
In Croatian elementary schools, music is taught as an independent subject called Music. At the lower primary level music lessons are usually taught by class teachers, and at the upper primary level by specialist teachers, experts in the field of music. There are great differences in the musical education of future music teachers and future class teachers. While in the context of music pedagogy studies a major part of the program is dedicated to music education in various disciplines (music theory, harmony, polyphony, music history, music forms and styles, conducting, choir, methodology of music education ...), musical education in the primary school teacher education includes only a small part of the curriculum. This paper includes a thorough analysis of the program of music pedagogy studies and primary school teacher education that are carried out at Croatian universities, discusses the possibility of good preparation of future class teachers for music teaching in primary schools, and makes suggestions for improving the curricula of teacher studies and for improving the quality of the program concept for music courses.
