Sažetak
Various optimization techniques have been development for the design of manufacturing systems based on group technology principles. This paper presents a new approach of optimising group technology part family design by applying genetic algorithm which is based on the principles of natural selection. Effectiveness of the proposed approach has been compared to several examples from literature, one of which is elaborated in this paper. The results show thar the proposed approach provides a powerful means of solving the manufacturing cell design problem.
