Sažetak
What’s the weather tomorrow? How will the population grow? When will the economy situation get better? Can this factory work better? These are just some everyday questions that models can give us answers to. Basically, we get in touch with models outcomes (answers) every day and most of us are not even aware of it. When talking about environmental processes, models, especially mathematical models, play significant role in process design, optimization, development, future predictions etc. In this chapter a short introduction into models (types of the models and their application) with accent on mathematical modeling in environmental engineering will be given. Some basic advices on how to approach mathematical modeling, how to use different types of models and how to apply different methods for solving of mathematical models will be discussed on the examples describing the environmental processes.
