Application of aqueous two-phase systems in microstructured devices
Sažetak
Aqueous two-phase systems (ATPSs) are formed when two incompatible polymers or certain polymers and lyotropic salts are mixed. They have been recognized as superior and versatile, preparative and analytical tools for the downstream processing of biomolecules meaning withwide application in extractions, separations, purifications and enrichments of proteins, polyphenols, viruses, enzymes and other biomolecules both in researches and industry. An overview about application of ATPSs in microstructured devices is given in this work. Microstructured devices offer potential benefits due to well-defined high specific interfacial areas available for heat and mass transfer. High specific interfacial area increases transfer rate and enhances yield, selectivity and process control. The flow patterns formations and stability, mass transfer and samples partition coefficients using ATPSs in microstructured devices are discussed in this work. Also, the application of ATPSs in Micro Total Analysis Systems (micro-TAS) is described.
