Sažetak
Torture alredy existed in Ancient Greece and in the Roman Empire, but its real flourishing only happened during the European Middle Ages. This article examines the meaning of torture, its historical development in Europe, the reason for its disappearance (at least as a legal institution), a few of the most most widespread types of torture and some of its basic rules.
