Sažetak
With all the political changes happening with the Latin-American society throughout the 20th century, many years had to pass before the “problema indígena” could be visible and recognizable as such. However, one has to dig deeper to realize that even though the indigenous people are being oppressed by all the other social groups (white, capitalist, criollos), indigenous women are being oppressed not just for being part of the indigenous culture, but also within their own indigenous culture (in Castro-Klarén’s words, they are twice oppressed - for being women as well as for being 'indígenas'). In this paper, I will analyze two feature films (“Madeinusa” and “La teta asustada/Milk of Sorrow”) by the Peruvian director Claudia Llosa. In both of her films, she deals with the indigenous issue by portraying young women struggling for their independence, trying to find the way out from the vicious circle of oppression, that is firstly initiated within their families (by their fathers/uncles), while at the same time being externally supported by the white ruling elite. How to deal with trauma provoked by the terrorist who raped Fausta’s mother during the Peruvian Civil war, or how to escape the tyrannical father who tries to normalize the act of raping his own daughter? Another issue which I would like to raise is to which extent is the western feminism(s) aligned with processes of constructing the subaltern subject through the indigenous women movement, taking into account different historical experiences.
