Sažetak
The formulation of optimal growth media for animal cell culture has received a lot of interest as a result of its critical impact on the development of bioprocesses based on animal cells. For successful maintenance and productivity of animal cell cultures, it is necessary to provide micro-environmental conditions that allow for optimal cell growth in vitro. Animal serum, mainly fetal bovine serum, is used as a supplement in growth media. Due to risks and disadvantages of serum use (transfer of infectious substances such as viruses, prions and immunogenic proteins), researchers are constantly working on formulations of serum-free or completely animal-components-free media. In recent years, many research groups have focusud on production of proteins and peptides (hydrolysates) from various sources to replace serum from culture media. Plant protein hydrolysates meet the highest standards of regulatory requirements considering the absense of substances of animal and pathogen origin from culture media. They contain a variety of nutrients such as amino acids, oligopeptides, lipids, trace elements, vitamins, minerals and other compounds that stimulate cell proliferation and metabolic activity. In this presentation we give an overview of plant protein hydrolysate utilization as cell culture media supplement and show our own results on the production and apllication of protein hydrolysates from agricultural waste in animal cell technology.
