Sažetak
Network design methodology developed for plain old telephone service systems cannot be applied to todays modern telecommunication systems. There is a large discrepancy between nature of traffic in the telephone network and todays multiservice networks. Due to this, traffic engineering methods have to be reexamined and extended to support planning of multiservice networks. This paper presents several methods and a tool that can be used to perform successful capacity planning, which is an important step in the overall network design process. The tool is using a simulation-based capacity planning method. The method is based on generating calls belonging to different services and bandwidth requirements. Capacity of the links in the network is being changed constantly until measured QoS parameters reach satisfying values.
